Second Chances

These hydrangea needed a second chance - badly! I almost gave up on them...they didn't fill my expectations at all. You can read about them HERE. After their second transplant was a failure, I decided to give them one more chance for another summer. I planted them on the east side of the gazebo where they're protected from the hot afternoon sun and get extra water falling from the roof of the gazebo when it rains. Now they're lush and beautiful and blooming like mad!

Cindy said...: Yes, Esther, there comes a time in every ones life that we need a second chance. And I'm sure you are pleased that you gave your hydrangeas a second chance. They look like they are going to do very well where they are now. After reading this, I'm glad I put my hydrangeas where I did. They get the morning and afternoon sun, but not the hot evening sun.

The hydrangeas are gorgeous. I'd like a second chance in my garden... I'm thinking, drought tolerant blooming plants and shrubs... something that will last through the HOT DRY TEXAS SUMMERS!

You saved them! They are glorious! OH how I looooove hydrangea!

If you pour your unused tea water or coffee water on them or ground the roots with your leftover tealeaves or coffee grounds it turns them bluish purple because of the acid. They also LOVE a mulch around the base of dropped fallen evergreen needles. More acid for the soil.
