Brick Columns

I love brick - especially old, used brick! Years ago, I saw a vignette in a magazine of one, dry-stacked brick column in a garden and knew I could do this. My one brick column turned into six more columns around my own garden. They're very simple to do and the instruction are HERE. They're a lovely addition to any garden, whether one or seven are used!

We are in the process of a few changes in our front yard but this is how it looked last summer.
- entrance into the back yard -
- the other side and the columns are nearly buried by the clematis -
- a single column that finishes an iron fence -
- a two-layer column -
This one (there are two like this) is a two-layer column that is just off the back deck. It could also be topped by this with a candle in it at night time, which is why I got them but I've found another place for these.
If you're lucky enough to find old, used brick, try it! New ones can be used as well - it simply doesn't have that charming look used brick has.

Hi. Coming over from Between Naps and love your columns! I used to work for a company that had a bunch of old brick out back, and now I'm lamenting the missed opportunity! ;)

This is really quite brilliant. Why wait around to get a mason...just dry stack yourself! I love old brick too.

I have a link party on Mondays. Would love it if you joined in.

Hi Esther,
Your garden is amazing!!! SO beautiful, and what a great idea using old bricks to make those lovely columns. You are really something lady~ so creatively inclined! I have a few old bricks in my yard, we actually dug several out of our flower beds, so I think they used to border the flower beds back many years ago. I will have to see if I have enough to make something out of. Where do you find those amazing finials?
Hugs, Cindy

They're terrific, Esther! I've never thought of using "dry stacked" bricks before. Hubby and I HAVE used dry stacked stones from our property for walls, borders, and assorted other things though. ;)

Thanks for linking to Time Travel Thursday. It's always fun to see what you link up.

Have a blessed weekend!
