Finished and in Place!

The chiffonier is finished! She's been taking up way too room in the garage! She needed repairs that only hubs could do and me being a used to be nagger not wanting to be a nag, finally asked if he could finish it before he went to MS for a week. Guess what?
He forgot it needed repairs!

Two summers ago, I was driving the back streets of a local town and saw the chiffonier by someone's house. long story short, we went back and the homeowner was delighted to say yes - ANYTHING on the pile, ma'am - an offer we refused. She sat outside in the rain, had two missing feet but found in one of the drawers and her bottom had holes in it. But I knew she could be rescued!
- before -
- after -
I knew when we picked it up, there WAS NO ROOM in our house for it. My intent was fix, paint and sell. after hubs did a fab job of fixing it up and brought it home, I kinda mumbled under my breath that it's going to be hard to give it up. Hubs, bless his heart, said we're FINDING room! And literally, the only place was in our bedroom which is small and I REALLY liked my bench and shelf that was already there.

She really is BEAUTIFUL!
From her curves to the etchings on the mirror...
to her graceful feet.
From the top of the tip-tilt mirror...
to the scallops on her skirt!
She's got a cute keyhole with a glass knob,
speckled mirrors,
   LOVELY drawer pulls,
a new color I fell in love with,
and all SHABBIED up!
She looks exactly like i pictured her...OLD, GRUNGY AND BEAUTIFUL!
she's also very useful...love useful and beautiful... for bedroom storage!
'happy, happy SIGH!'
 - our bedroom before -
- after -
Now if we can only get the clock pendulum to swing quietly!

GW clock

several weeks ago, i bought this clock at Goodwill.
at the time i wondered why someone sent it there...
i really liked the 'frenchy' look and color.
it went into my shopping cart.
i hung it in our bedroom.
i found out why it was at the GW.

see the lee-tle, teeny bar?
the pendulum strikes it - loudly...
enough to drive you into the crazy house!
i could...
junk it
put it in storage
send it back...
but i liked it too much to give up on it.
so...
i took the pendulum off its perch and hooked it on the ledge of the clock.
but the pendulum thingy merely swung louder (crazy house!).
i hooked the pendulum thingy over a tiny knob in the back to keep it stationary.
it worked!

this is how it hangs - for now.
hubs is going to try cutting the bars out so the pendulum can swing, swing! :)
you'll see where the clock is when the chiffionier is finished.

week end musings

saturday evening we went to a princess house late supper/BIG snack party.
now let me be clear...
i don't buy princess house AT. ALL.
why should i? i can find it at yard sales, thrift shops or the GW -
if...
i want it
and
for $ cheaper!
(truly, i'm a skin flint!)
but this affair was helping a young mother with two children, three and ten months,
whose husband left her.
we did our part and at hubs' urging, bought a 'ta-ma-ta' knife.
does anyone else experience 'hubby urgings' for good causes?
 WELL...
who am i to complain?!
any-hoo...
it was a fun evening and she was a good sales lady! :)

Hearing God's Voice

God longs to speak to us.
We don't always want to hear.
There are many voices clamoring to be heard.
Hearing the voice of God takes time and being alone.

If God is not in our day we are a people without a mission.

my week

hubs was in MS for a week, driving coach for Amish young folks who were involved in a rebuilding project in Gulfport. i set up 'shop' in the garage when he's gone and work on my bigger projects.
this week i worked on this ABANDONED CHIFFONIER. the finished product will have to wait till next week - however, here are a few teasers.

i found this child's tea set at the GW...so cute!

back to my week...
the familiar old saying 'when the cat's away, the mice play' is really true for me!

  • i stayed up late
  • slept later in the morning
  • watched a ton of movies
  •  ate what i wanted when i wanted
  •  washed the dishes once
  • did the laundry once
  • the house was a wreck
  • didn't make the bed...after all, just one side was used
what i did do...
  • painted
  • cleaned the drive when it snowed
  • babysat two evenings
  • went to a tupperware fundraiser where i wasn't going to spend any money and did...all of onehundred buck-a-roos!
  • ate lunch with sis-ta R and daughter J
  • packed up christmas decorations (miss the greens!)
the week went quickly and hubs will be home this afternoon!

oh yes...
here is another piece i worked on this week.
LOVE!

abandoned...

a-ban-doned - adj.
 given up; forsaken; deserted
but she's getting a new life!

week end musings

i traveled fifty minutes away on saturday to Zieglers, a nifty antique shop housed in an old barn.
the entrance begins by walking through a double corn crib.
the barn is filled with goodies...the owners live in the brick house in the back.
stepping inside, looking to the left...
 ...and to the right.
i met my blogger friend, Joyce, from Quilted Nest, there and she gave me a tour.
Joyce has her own interesting tiny shop.
love this light...it's huge!
this is part of what's inside the shop behind the yellow doors.
looking at the double corncrib entrance from the other side.
i'm eager to see what it looks like through the summer months -
this place has lots of character!

Revelation 5:9-10

And they sang a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof; for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people and nation; and hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
